The mudras

A “mudra” is a gesture, in the same way a “mantra” is a sound and a “mandala” is an image or a thought. A mudra is a way to position your hands in certain ways, so that the energy channels in your fingers connect in certain ways, in order to produce a beneficial effect. When the tips of certain fingers touch, they create energy relays, in coordination with the straight fingers letting energy flow normally, these hand positions produce effects in your physical and energy bodies.

Some mudras target the physical plane, others are target the spiritual planes. Effects of the physical mudras range from rebuilding your bones and cartilage, to healing your kidneys, clearing your mind, or help you get up faster in the morning. Spiritual mudras have a broad range of elevating effects that can enhance your psychic abilities, help you forgive, reduce anger, raise your energy level. Hundreds of different mudras create all the effects you can wish for, but we tend to use a reduced set of mudras that serve our goals, and help everything in general.

Here we show basic mudras useful to help you in your Nagah practices and meditations.

Pran mudra

This mudra stimulates the base chakra, the channels of energy in the legs, and the minor chakras in the middle of the feet. This mudra is called “Mudra of life”. It will elevate your energy level, reduce fatigue, clear your eyesight. It will enhance your determination and self trust. It is also used in conjunction with treatments for eye disorders.

Place your index and major straight, touch your thumb, auricular and little fingers by their tips. Take deep, slow, normal breaths. Concentrate on your base chakra and the bottom of your two feet. After a minute of breathing normally, do a few held reversed breaths. Breath in and tighten your abdomen, sexual organs, perineum and buttock. Hold your breath in for 5 seconds and release everyghing. Breath normally again and repeat this cycle for five minutes.

Knowledge mudra

This mudra stimulates learning and teaching. It is the mudra of knowledge. It makes it easy for your brain to link new neurons together, as well as communicate information with better pedagody. It is also usefull to acquire knowledge from the heavens, learning without knowing, letting higher wisdom guide you. You will see a lot of Buddhist Gods doing this mudra.

Palm pointing forward and fingers pointing up, touch your thumb and index tips, letting the other fingers gently curve. Breath normally, focusing on your touching fingertips. Empty your mind and be at peace.

Healing mudra

This mudra is often used by the Buddha called Sange Menla. This Buddha brought the science of healing to the Buddhists. This mudra will help the concept of healing take place in your body.

The mudra is the same as the Knowledge mudra, but fingers pointing downwards. Sit with your legs crossed, your left hand resting where your legs cross, palm up in front of your abdomen, and your right hand is placed in the shape of the mudra, wrist resting in your right knee. Breath deeply and slowly, and meditate.

A chinesse doctor will simply take your pulse by placing a few fingers on you wrist, and they know what is wrong with you, or what could be healed. Then, with the science brought by Sange Menla, he will suggest a composition of herbs, rocks, tree bark,… well,… stuff, that you will infuse in hot water and drink. It is the best medicine in the world.

Opening gate mudra

This mudra is often used in ceremonies where gates of the temple are opened. It its the mudra of listening and communication. It will treat any throat disorder and develop communications abilities at the physical and spiritual level.

The top photo shows how to place your hands for the mudra practice, but the lower photo shows that you wrap your left thumb with your right fingers. Touch your right thumb with your left major, and notice the sea shell shape. Breath, relax, fell the flows of energy in your hands and in your throat. Use the mantra "Om" softly to enhance the effect of the practice.
