The flow of energy in breath
While our body naturally breathes, it also naturally circulates bioelectric energy in our body. The energy is used to manage bodily functions and perpetuate life. The calmer and smoother this energy flows, the healthier we are and the clearer we think. Emotions are influenced by the bioelectric energy flow as well as hormones influence it.
In the same way we can simply concentrate on our breathing to make it follow our will in other ways than the normal breathing, we can make energy flow thru our body simply by wanting it. When you wish to lift your arm, you dont need to know all about the blood flow thru your veins, nervous energy stimulating the ADP of your muscle fibers to make them contract all you need to do is will it and your arm lifts.
Using your imagination, you simply need to imagine where the energy is, where it is going, and some energy will behave accordingly to follow the motion of your mental image. With time and practice, you will be able to feel this movement of energy like if it was wind flowing thru your body. Some feel it in a more intense water flowing sensation. The traditional name for the art of flowing energy is Gi-Gong, meaning practice of the energy.
Breathing will enhance the movement of energy. Visualization alone will make energy flow, but not enough to become truly efficient. You must also will it like when you move you body, when you desire something and do an action to obtain it, even though your body remains motionless. The breath is essential in the development of your energy channels and use of energy in its many applications. While you breath in, you are drawing energy to you, and as you breath out, energy will flow according to your visualization.
We recommend you dont start imagining any chaotic disordered energy movement in your body, because it might disturb your regular functions. A step by step approach is necessary to develop your mental ability to control energy in your body. As you acquire knowledge and experience in the art of making the energy flow, you will be able feel the effect of your practice and understand quicker the different applications of Gi-Gong.
Once you did the Gathering Energy method, using the normal breath, your body has a little more energy than the usual, so it makes it easier for you to feel it. Never do any energy practice without filling yourself up before, or else you would use your basic source or bioelectricity and fatigue yourself, or make yourself ill.
Take a few natural breaths. Put your right palm over your left arm without touching it, staying at least one inch distance. Using the reversed breathing, as you breath in and contract your abdomen a bit, fill your right hand with energy by imagining your right hand becoming filled with white light/wind. As you breath out and let your abdomen relax, make the energy emanate from your right hand to your left arms surface. Use your will as well as your imagination. Move your right hand over your skin surface and try to notice a light sensation that could emanate directly from your hand.
Energy flowing thru your body can trigger heat, cold, windy sensations, tickling, or nothing at first. After doing a few breath with your palm emanating, try it with your fingers pointing. Keep your hand straight and point your left arm, moving over it, moving over your hand, fingers, going back to the elbow, and keep doing the reversed breath and visualization. Eventually you will feel the energy flowing.
